
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that 2000 megawatts of solar power will be produced in the country within the next two years. He said, at the moment, everyone is going through an energy crisis except the countries that produce oil. It has also affected Bangladesh. Still we keep trying.
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized at Bidyut Bhawan in the capital on Monday (May 29).Nasrul Hamid said, as our production is increasing, demand is also increasing. For the time being, the government will give subsidy to the sectors where subsidy is needed instead of giving subsidy on a mass basis. The government has no plans to raise electricity prices again before the elections. It is also being considered whether the tax on this sector can be reduced in the next budget.
Nasrul Hamid said that 180 billion dollars investment is needed by 2050 to build advanced infrastructure in the energy sector. This huge amount of money will be collected from government as well as private and foreign sources. This investment will be made in smart grid, modern technology, advanced transmission and distribution system, cost effective production system.
The state minister said that the global context has challenged the power and energy sector. Although the transmission and distribution system is running as planned, the continuous supply of primary fuel has been challenged. In next 2 years more 2000 MW electricity will be generated from renewable sources. Electricity will come from Nepal. Deep sea exploration activities are being stepped up. PSC is being updated and attractive.
Transmission is being given to the private sector. The distribution system is being modernized. He said, gas exploration activities are being increased, hopefully more gas will be found. Efforts to mainstream Bhola gas continue.
He also said that the country belongs to everyone. By working together with the public and private sectors, the desired goals can be reached quickly.
